Cleaning & Protecting New Wheels Before Fitting Them
Few things in life are more thrilling than fitting a brand-new set of wheels—and here at AF, we live for that moment! We know it’s tough to contain your excitement, but before you hit the road it's important to clean and protect your wheels. That’s why we’re here to help you keep those wheels protected from day one. With our Caramics Wheel Protection Kit, not only will your wheels stay safeguarded, but cleaning them during your next maintenance wash will be a breeze!
You can apply this treatment to brand-new wheels straight out of the box or after fitting your tires. The key is to ensure they’re completely free of dirt, dust, and any leftover tyre soap.
Carefully inspect your wheels for any defects or significant scratches in the finish that may need addressing before applying the coating. Using a direct light source is the best way to spot any imperfections.
Even if there are no defects to fix, giving gloss finishes a quick polish with Tripple is a great practice. This will cleanse the surface and eliminate any minor scratches or swirl marks from storage. Typically, you’ll only need to focus on the faces and lips. Don’t forget to thoroughly buff away any remaining residue.
Begin with the faces by applying Prep Spray to prepare the surface for optimal bonding. This step removes any oils or residues lingering on the surface. Use a clean microfibre cloth to wipe it dry.
Now, generously apply your Ceramic Wheel Coating across the entire face and lip.
Use a Micro Wipe applicator to work the Ceramic Wheel Coating into the surface, ensuring even coverage throughout. Take care to spread the coating into every nook and cranny.
With a fresh microfibre cloth, perform a final buff, using a light source to ensure all residue is completely removed.
Since the wheels haven’t been mounted yet, it’s the ideal time to protect the barrels. Complete the process by treating the inner barrels of all four wheels. Allow them to cure indoors for at least 6 hours before exposing them to the elements.
If your tires are being fitted afterward, be sure to bring your Prep Spray along. Since Caramics Wheel Coating is designed to prevent things from bonding, you’ll need to give the areas where balancing weights will be attached a quick wipe with Prep Spray.
