How To Easily Remove Stubborn Paintwork Contaminants
Eliminating stubborn contaminants embedded in paintwork requires more than a basic wash; they need to be extracted using clay. This step is crucial for prepping the surface for polishing or applying a Last Step Product (LSP). Fortunately, we've introduced an innovation that simplifies the process. Our Handi Clay Pads function like traditional detailing clay bars but are specifically designed to pair with our Handi Puck system, offering unmatched speed, ease, and effectiveness. Even better, you can tackle this task during the wash stage, saving time without compromising results.
Start by ensuring your car is thoroughly cleaned and free from surface contaminants. We recommend a complete decontamination wash, using Iron Out Contaminant Remover to chemically dissolve embedded metal particles, and ObliTARate Tar and Glue Remover (if needed) to eliminate sticky residues. Once the process is complete, leave the car wet and attach your Handi Clay pad to your Handi Puck for the next step.
As with any clay process, a lubricant is essential to minimize the risk of marring and ensure smoother operation. Begin by applying a spritz of Glide Clay Lube directly onto your Handi Clay pad.
A great tip before working on your paint is to use the Handi Clay on the glass first. This helps break in the surface and makes it easier for the clay to pick up contaminants.
Next, spray Glide onto the paint surface. Work on one panel at a time, applying a full spray to roughly every 20cm².
Now, use your Handi Clay to work from side to side with light pressure, making short back-and-forth strokes across the panel. Initially, you may feel some resistance, but as contaminants are lifted, the surface will gradually become smoother and slipperier. Once the paint feels completely smooth, move on to the next panel.
After you've finished decontaminating the entire paintwork, rinse the car thoroughly and dry it as usual. Now you're all set for the next step...
