Warum Schneeschaum wichtig ist
Snow foams are essentially high-foaming detergents designed to cling to surfaces, allowing the active cleaning agents to remain in contact for longer, increasing their cleaning effectiveness. While the dramatic foam looks impressive, its main function is to extend the dwell time for better results. Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately, things often go wrong when it comes to applying the foam, as many users struggle to achieve the desired results. Even though manufacturers provide guidance on how much solution to mix, they can’t predict the exact dilution ratio once the foam hits your vehicle, so it requires user adjustment to get it right. Snow foam has been a debated topic in car care forums for years—some swear by it, while others claim it does little more than a pressure washer alone. Here's our take: despite the mixed opinions, we believe that snow foam, used with a foam lance, remains a valuable tool in a detailer's kit.
A snow foam lance works by creating a siphon effect: as water passes through the jet, it draws the solution from the reservoir and mixes it in the jet, where a series of mesh inserts agitate it into foam. The issue arises because snow foam is diluted twice before it reaches the vehicle—first by the user during preparation, and second by the foam lance during application. This second dilution varies depending on the pressure washer and hose pressure, which are never identical. However, with a bit of experimentation to find the right mixture, users can achieve optimal results, removing road grime and dirt without physically touching the vehicle. This greatly reduces the risk of fine scratches and swirl marks, while also ensuring that active cleaning agents reach tricky gaps and crevices that a wash mitt often can't.
Snow foam offers even more advantages beyond basic cleaning. It’s ideal for regularly maintaining lightly dirty wheels, wheel arches, engine bays, and other areas that benefit from a pre-soak to break down grime and contaminants. Some car owners even manage a near-touchless wash by using snow foam—simply applying it, allowing it to dwell, and rinsing off after light use can help maintain cleanliness. For engine bays, mixing snow foam 50:50 with a degreaser can provide an extended dwell time, making it even more effective at breaking down tough dirt.
