What do we love even more than detailing? Well, nothing. But a close second has to be getting out there on the track in our own project cars. As many of you will already know, too - especially if you’ve seen us at any events around Europe and the UK this season - we’ve got heavily into drifting for 2024. So, when we heard that the LZ World Tour was, once again, laying on an event in Europe, we were sure to get TeamAF involved.

Having already put together the world’s cleanliest drift car, our 2JZ-powered LTO BMW E36 – which not only made its debut at Ultrace earlier in the year, but has seen more than a few sets of tyres at events and drift sessions ever since - we were in good shape to take on this premier drift event laid on by Youtuber and drifter Adam LZ. Of course, we also have our own sponsored Finesse Racing Team, including our superstar driver, Archie Harmer and his E36 Pro Drift Car, who was already signed up to take on over 20 of the world’s top drivers.

What’s even handier for us of course, is that this round of the LZ World Tour would be taking place at Mondello park in Ireland. As our drift cars happen to live in England at the UK AF HQ, it’s a far shorter road trip than from here in Germany. So, with that in mind our UK Team loaded up the cars, hooked up the AirStream mobile store stuffed to the gills with the world’s best detailing products, and headed to Dublin ready for a quick setup and a full-on Friday practice.

The LZ World Tour has already hit the US, Australia and Canada this year, but arguably the European event is the greatest, simply because it attracts many of Europe’s best pro drivers. All the big names the hardcore drift fans expect.

The event qualifying takes place on the Saturday with a whole load of runs designed to let the drivers show the judges, not to mention the crowd, exactly what they’ve got. The Sunday brings with it the final tandem battles where the pros go head-to-head on the circuit.

What’s also great about this event is that the top drivers also have to take on a battle in a pair of near-stock Lexus IS200s. Obviously that puts even the most seasoned competition pros right out of their usual comfort zones.

Add that little lot to a load of special demos over the course of the weekend - including James Deane’s 4-Rotor RX7, the D1 Legends, D-Mac’s Audi Quattro, and their (rather unique) ‘Star in a reasonably-prices NASCAR’ segment - and there was plenty of super-sideways entertainment to keep us smiling all weekend.

One other top demo that proved extremely popular with the screaming crowd came from our founder, James, giving him the chance to get out and destroy a few tyres in our Live To Offend BMW. And, let’s just say that, even though this car is built to show car standards and detailed to perfection on the regular, he certainly didn’t hold back!

Of course, the E36 may have been built to be driven, but even we’re surprised at the pasting this car gets every time there’s a sniff of some bare tarmac. It wasn’t what you’d call cheap this one, that’s for sure.

The drifting is the main part of the weekend of course, but even cooler is that over 700 other cars turned up to be a part of the event. There’s quite the static show that has built up around the Mondello Park, and it’s not just drift cars, there’s all sorts!

Here’s just a few that caught our eye…

As you can see, we had a top weekend all the way, what’s not to love, eh? Loads of action, loads of display cars, and plenty of the legendary Irish hospitality. Everything that makes the world go round.
